The Green Smoothie Challenge

On my post here I announced I was trying the 10 Day Green Smoothie Challenge. My reasoning behind it was that because of the life I lead, any boost I can give to my system has to be worth a shot. (With Ella's complex needs; being a foster carer to children who also have individual needs; and trying to establish several businesses I have been thinking about my health. I've already had 2 operations this year and have another lined up for October or November; and I'll be no good to anyone if I end up depleted and ineffective)

So I've now completed the 10 days. How do I feel? Actually pretty good :) One of our fosterlings has had a taste daily and has given every day a thumbs up - no mean feat for a fourteen year old when you think the drinks main ingredients are fruit and veg :) I didn't just have one at breakfast time every day, our lives are rarely routine enough. Most days were either breakfast or lunch, but one I had for dinner - and wasn't hungry :) I feel healthier, but I didn't do any measuring/weighing - while Jeff is away I tend to eat too much garbage in the evenings as a comfort thing. So am thinking of repeating the whole ten days when Jeff is back (and after my girls weekend!).

I wholeheartedly recommend giving the 10 Day Green Smoothie Challenge a go and the link is on the logo right here .......

Tired!

Only 3 sleeps since Jeff flew off to Lake Tahoe again to see the boys. It has been stressful. Meltdowns (not me - although, there's a thought lol!); Breakdowns (internet and printer); and germs galore. So while shopping yesterday decided to treat myself to some flowers - who knew you could get pink gypsophila! Two simple bunches, but I'm smiling every time I walk past them :)

The Green Smoothie Challenge

With Ella's complex needs, being a foster carer and trying to establish several businesses I have been thinking about my health. I've already had 2 operations this year and have another lined up for October or November; and I'll be no good to anyone if I end up depleted and ineffective. So after the success of the Whole 30 in January I was ready to try something else and read about the Green Smoothie Challenge. I admit I was totally dubious initially, I mean kale and spinach in drinks?? Seriously?

But I decided in for a penny in for a pound and the first thing I did was buy a NutriBullett (and O.M.G., it is every bit as awesome as the adverts suggest!). You don't need to, but it had been on our wish list for a while, so went for it.

Then I read through all the information. Initially I thought, 'Eek! That's a lot of paperwork!' but it's actually very easy to read, lots of pictures and white space.

Finally was the shopping. There is a shopping list provided so it's quick and easy. Went all out and even got the extras like Maca and Spirilina. As a vegetarian I felt any boost to my system had to be a good thing! They are expensive, but the quantities needed are small, so they will last months. Plus there's always offers on if you're a canny shopper like we have to be :)

And now we're on to the smoothies and back to my doubts - which were totally unfounded! The recipes are sent every morning and I've enjoyed all 3 so far! Okay, so they don't always look appealing, but if you ignore the colour, they taste great. I've 7 recipes still to go, but I'm confident that I'll be continuing it long after the 10 day challenge is up :)

Sweet Table

I haven't set up one of these in what seems forever. Actually thanks to the job that sucked the life out of me, my gallbladder operation, and then the repair on my wrist; plus having 4 children in the house - 3 of which have been very demanding - I haven't done much of anything recently apart from tread water.

So when I was asked to design a sweetie table for a girlfriend I jumped at the chance. And, not blowing my trumpet - well, okay, yes I am lol! - I love it, very elegant, eye-catching and perfect for her what she needed (the theme was winter/snow) :)

Instagram Challenge Day 10 & 11

Taking part in an Instagram Challenge being organised by Sarah at Creative & Cafe It's about growing your account and encouraging new visitors. I have 3 IG accounts, two for business and 1 is personal. It's the personal one this relates to which promotes fostering, adoption and special needs. So, while my hand is still healing I'm cheating with my blog posts and utilising cut and paste :)

Day 10 - 'Share a Photograph on your Desk'
I always have one or two pieces of artwork on my desk that I've made, rainbows and positive quotes usually feature heavily and this one is no exception :)

Day 11 - 'Behind the Scenes'
Hanging my head in shame, here's my studio desk! I actually love creating art, decorating shoes, and writing in here, but it does get a bit messy :)

DAY 9 'Your Product that you are Proud of'
I had already decided to post this photograph today, seemed a perfect fit with the prompt.
Being a foster carer is hard work but always worth it. Roald Dahl week meant dress up day for fosterling 2 and 4. We decided to make their outfits as we wanted them to experience the joy of someone creating something for them. The reactions from all their school friends made them beam from ear to ear and made the hours - and hours - worth it. One of them even won the class prize for the best dressed. Fostering isn't all about meetings, stress and behaviour, in fact mostly it's about the little things. Back to the outfit - so pleased how it all turned out! Please flip back to yesterday's post to see the 'before' photos :)

DAY 8 'Magic Hour
This photo was taken in the sunset witching hour. Much as 2 of the fosterlings like to wake us up at 5am every morning, I'm not functioning enough at that time to prep for a photoshoot LOL! So, 2 Poundland wigs and curlers. One tin of Halfords car paint. Hopefully 2 Oompa Loompa hairstyles will be the end result!
I also added this photo. Part 2, the clothes - white plimsolls and women's polo neck jumpers from Primark. Brown dye from Dylon, plus bits and pieces to complete the look!

DAY 6 'Something you Love, featuring your brand colours'
I struggled with this one but decided my 'brand' colours would be my blog. And I actually like the idea of framing my photographs with the turquoise. What do I love? Apart from the obvious, my view from my studio which I get to enjoy in between all the childcare!

DAY 7 'Your Daily Routine' For me, after all the kidlets are sorted in the morning, a cup of tea and check-in with my planners is essential to know whether I have fostering, special needs, adoption meetings. Or appointments for San Gennaro Shoes. Or, well you get the picture! Oh and I am really trying to think about the cohesiveness of my photos :)

Rather pleased with this bit of photo editing - who says the camera never lies? No-one any more!

DAY 5 'Pose a Question'
If you foster, something small like eating meat and potatoes is a milestone when all he has eaten for 4 months is chicken nuggets, chips & pasta or rice without sauce! Day 5 of ccbossclub is to ask a question, so I would ask what was good for you today?

DAY 4 'Daily Habits'
For this one my mind went outside the box. For me it's hugs! There isn't a day goes by without someone getting a hug from me! I think it's the Italian half of me lol! Could be family, friends, foster children, I'm not fussy LOL!

DAY 3 'Inspirational Book'
This was hard. I love reading anything and everything. So I put the fosterlings to bed and finished reading them The Lorax. I love Dr Seuss books, this one is all about greed and the environment; Green Eggs & Ham is about trying something new; Oh The Places You'll go , well, that's self-explanatory! And so on. And as this IG account is about family, in whatever shape or size, this is my choice.

DAY 2 'Introduce Yourself'
A very old scrapbook layout I did, but perfect for the #ccbossclub day 2 which is to introduce yourself. I'm a wife and mum to step/birth//adopted children, some with complex special needs. I'm a foster carer, childminder, childcare professional & tutor. In my spare time I enjoy crafting, writing, upcycling, alternative therapies and my husband thinks I'm a bit of a witch! And that's just a glimpse ...
