Fostering 'G' ..... A - Z Blog Challenge

As Jeff and I have been foster carers for 3 years this month it seemed the right time to have Fostering as a topic for the A-Z. We're still new enough that we're not jaded yet, but have had a pretty bumpy ride, so fairly realistic in what fostering is really about.

For further information The Fostering Network

Short one today!

G IS FOR:
Guardian ad Litem - Once a child enters the care system and the courts are involved a Guardian ad Litem s/he is appointed a GAL, who takes an independent look at the child's life. This person's role is to represent the child before the court and what is in his or her best interests and to make sure that the child's wishes and feelings are made known to the court.
Gifts for the Family - Foster carers should, whenever appropriate, ensure the children in their care have a small gift for their birthday on significant events in their birth families lives, e.g. Christmas, birthday, Mothers day.

  1. Hi Suzanne - it is certainly a full time and important responsibility for the child ... and needs to be co-ordinated to ensure the best is obtained for the child - I have huge admiration for you - cheers Hilary

  2. Good on you! And what a beautiful way to share what you are doing. I had signed up to foster unacccompanied minors to the U.S. but given what's going on in immigration, that hasn't happened yet. Thanks.
